At the age of 4 Anja Rubik fled with her family from the communist regime of her native country Poland. With her globetrotting family, she lived in Athens, Winnipeg, Umata (South Africa), Paris, Vienna, Deia, before choosing to move to New York, where she still resides.
Her modeling career began in Paris while she completed her studies in a British school in the capital. Her stunning facial features and charismatic skills have bagged her some of the most luxurious brand endorsements, from Chanel, Givenchy, Chloe, Dior, Versace and Victoria’s Secret.
A devotee of art and feminist, she is also an outstanding entrepreneur. Programmer of art-related events and fashion in Poland, the young woman is also head of a sensual fashion magazine called 25, for which she invites artists that inspire him to explore a theme that the passionate or important social issues. Creative at heart, Anja has also launched her fragrance, Original, a subtle fragrance with woody tones, and has just completed a collection of clothes for Iro.
’O Do you travel much?
Anja Rubik: “Sometimes I go to Europe several times in the same month. I just returned from Cuba, and felt in love with Havana. Also i travelled to Tokyo, Beijing and Nepal. When travel is work-related, I try to extend it for a few days to live local experiences. ”
’O How is a typical day in New York?
AR: “After sport, I continue on appointments. I love walking in city and to feel its energy. As soon as I have a moment, I stop in a museum or gallery. Last night I dined at Sant Ambroeus, my favorite spot to rest before watching a movie at home. ”
’O What are your favorite hobbies?
AR: “I am passionate about scuba diving. I also love cinema and I love to visit the artists’ studios to see how they work. ”
’O Who gave you desire to be a model?
AR: “I grew up watching the Freedom clips and George Michael. I idolized Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Nadja Auermann, they seemed to me so powerful. ”
’O Your haven of peace in the world?
AR: “Mallorca.”
’O What is your motto?
AR: “Never have regrets. Every experience is a lesson. ”
’O What are your plans?
AR: “Present Polish artists in Istanbul, working for young musician as a consultant and also working at the Brooklyn Museum.”
’O What is your first memory related to the brand Iro?
AR: “I knew their creations on shots and then I became customer in their store.”
’O How would you describe your collection with them?
AR: “My goal was to present a very personal collection, and close to my chic look / rock, basic / minimalist, masculine / feminine, sexy. I imagined iconic pieces to be mixed together. ”
’O Your favorite from the collection?
AR: “The biker jacket to Claude Montana, leather trench coat and suede kimono.”
’O What have you enjoyed most of your collaboration?
AR: “Shooter campaign with Collier Schorr.”
’O What is your ideal menu for breakfast?
AR: “Toast , poached eggs, a guava smoothie, bread and butter, pear, avocado and banana and coffee.”
’O What is your best memory of breakfast?
AR: “A porridge made by my nanny in South Africa.”
’O What are you doing right after our interview?
AR: “I look at my emails, organize my day and talk with my family.”
’O Your favorite places for breakfast?
AR: “Buvette and Sant Ambroeus in New York, the Café de Flore and the Pavillon de la Reine in Paris, Warsaw and Glodomory Casa Vitrales in Havana.”
