Joining the likes of Cavalli, Versace, Ralph Lauren and Chanel; Gucci is the latest luxury designer label crossing into haute cuisine. In its first ever incarnation as a full-service restaurant, 1921 Gucci Cafe, (named for the year of the house’s founding), is now serving modern Italian fare to Shanghai shoppers.
Located on the fourth floor of a luxury shopping mall on the popular Huaihai Lu, the cafe is accessible via an elevator from the ground floor of the Gucci store.
Inside, the interior has a mid-century New York feel to it; turquoise club chairs, parquetry and wood panelling give it a distinctly refined masculine edge. On the menu? Exquisite seafood, beef carpaccio, light pasta and steak (proudly) from Australia.
