Each piece has its tale to tell of oceanside living—and dreaming—in a blend of elegance and fantasy, simplicity and poetic movement in material.
Fabrics are fluid and vaporous, lifted from the skin by a warm afternoon breeze. Others, such as gold and silver pleated lamé, are crisp and textured to cut the cool evening air.
Silhouettes are ample, flared and fit the seashore inspiration in caftans, wide-leg marine trousers split along the sides as well as siren gowns—sober in shape yet with lines of sequins raining down—and, day dresses with a rounded, convex hemline at back. Sleeves are particularly expressive, pagoda or kimono-style, or in forms that appear to melt in folds of loose bows. Dresses and jumpsuits are knotted at the waist, evoking the pareo and other beach time attire.
Upon silk organza, jacquard motifs of waves and algae add a subtle relief upon the surface of the body. Vertical stripes of small sequins in shades of aqua travel down gowns while oversized iridescent sequins appear as scales reflecting the sun’s rays. A finely embroidered underwater scene, multi-colored motifs on tulle, veils the skin and portrays the theater of aquatic life.
Coral reefs and shells are the season’s boldest, most airy print—a motif made exclusively for INGIE Paris—that appears in coral red or blue against soft white backgrounds of crêpe de soie or viscose.
Delicately braided handmade bows, small or large, appear here and there, sometimes in rows, other times embroidered with drops of crystal; or in large folds cascading down in curls from the shoulders.
Stilettos and sandals in silk and leather are adorned with pearls, asymmetrical ruffles and bows to interpret the season’s seashore stories, as are the bags of fine Italian craftsmanship with hand-painted or embroidered motifs. Iconic oversized pearls—an INGIE signature—appear upon the garments and punctuate the collection’s jewels: simple twists of gold encircling single pearls, finished with effervescent drop tassels.
Vibrancy and light win against the obscurity of the deep in the INGIE Paris Summer 2018 collection, inspired and liberated by the immensity of the sea, and its invitation to escape.
