Comme des Garçons: Connect the DOT

Commes-des-Garcons-polka-dots2

In the past 22 years, CDG fragrances have launched only five scents, each one with its own code name to reflect the inspiration behind it. These creations join a collection of over 75 other scents under the Comme des Garçons Perfumes umbrella.

The latest of the five creations is a CDG eau de parfum codenamed DOT. Polka dots – sprinkled all over the bottle – also happen to be the symbol synonymous with the brand. The scent, that takes after the Osmanthus flower, was crafted at the request of creative director Rei Kawakubo and, like a string of dots, it manages to link each aspect within the scent to one other. To recreate and capture the enticing aroma that fills the parks in Japan, Christian Astugevielle, artistic director of Comme des Garçons Parfum enlisted the help of perfumer Lucas Sieuzac.

It wasn’t just the flower that was captured in the bottle. The perfumer also used radiant green top notes to represent the leaves of trees. Joining the green notes are bitter orange and pepper for a hint of spice. In the mid notes, the Osmanthus flower takes centre stage, and is accompanied by a touch of Olibanum. For the bottom notes, the perfumer used white amber woods that reflect the bark of the Osmanthus tree.

Comme des Garçons DOT is now available worldwide at US $130 (£85).
