‘Filial Piety’ by Yuxian He & Wenfeng Wang
The project was inspired by the traditional Chinese family. In China, a family is not only considered a social unit, but it also represented a codified ideology that pervaded society for thousands of years. The concept of filial piety is simple: parents give life to children and provide for them. Because of all the things children receive from their parents, children have an obligation towards them throughout their lives. Such debt towards the parents can never be fully repaid. When children have any conflict with their parents, they can hardly have an equal position in the conversation. Most children must obey their parents’ arrangements, and in many cases, even after they reach adulthood.
