NYFW SS16: L’Officiel Insta-Highlights

Queen of the wrap dress, Diane von Furstenberg drew on Fortuna, the goddess of luck for SS16. Think Grecian dresses offset with a disco ‘fro. “It’s a celebration of beauty, of freedom and individuality,” Von Furstenberg told the Financial Times backstage. “My message, as always, is to be the woman you want to be.”

Colour and geometry— stars, stripes and cool cut outs. La Coste SS16 was a celebration of youth—fresh and fun.

Alexander Wang, the 31 year-old behind the eponymous label is back to his Californian roots with a nod to all things Americana.

That means cowboy fringe, baseball jackets, a little bit of moto in the form of biker leather and add to that a dash of West Coast grunge, circa ’94. Givenchy’s first show at NYFW was a sombre tribute to 9/11 and opened with a performance piece by Marina Abramovic before the introduction closed on a rendition of Ave Maria. The theme didn’t mar the beauty and opulence of the clothes from the French fashion house, patent leather, lace–all delicate, intricate and monochrome. Coming back from the difficulties with Givenchy Fall 2015, Riccardo Tisci wowed the audience with his sheer gowns and exquisite lace work.
